How to Do the Perfect Mad-Men Cateye

So it’s probably not a surprise that I’m a big Mad Men fan. I mean, the clothes, the drinking, the furniture? Incredible. I was hooked from the moment Betty brought out the same servingware my grandmother had with celery and cream cheese appetizers. Okay, and also when she starts shooting pigeons with a shotgun. Anyway, lots of people don’t like Betty, and I totally get why: She’s a terrible mother. But she also lives in a terrible society that is terrible to stay-at-home mothers, so I cut her more slack than most. Plus, I love when she brings out her glamourous Grace Kelly side…

Best Free Things to Do in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of my favorite budget destinations and quick weekend getaway spots. In fact, I really don’t recommend people stay much longer than 48 hours, when the gilded edges of Sin City start to show their wear. That said, it’s well worth visiting over and over again as you can really tailor your trip to any interest, whether it’s spa, or food, or straight-up gambling. But what really won me over was the flavor of the frosting: Rosewater Buttercream. WAT? As you might know, I have a thing for roses. Not even the flower itself but the scent. And while this little puppy didn’t have a strong smell, the flavor was awesome. It toned down some of the sweetness of normal buttercream and gave it a bit of afternoon tea…

View from the High Line Park in NYC

Had an extra day in New York after a details-should-not-be-named Bachelorette Party in Atlantic City, so I took the subway to the lower west side to High Line Park. The park lives atop an old subway line, once known as the Death Train since so many people died crossing the tracks. The park has lots of vegetation and cool public art installs that rotate periodically. Lots of areas for sitting and lounging as well–which I would have done more of, but the threat of rain kept me walking the park quickly. I did have to stay parked under an underpass…
